June's Garden

Project: Healing Garden
Location: Lewiston, ME

Designed to improve the lives of the residents and their caregivers, June's Garden aimed to transform an outdated sitting area on the edge of a vast parking lot into a beautiful private garden. The design concept involved the creation of five outdoor rooms connected by a system of walking path loops. The program elements included a large patio area, a flexible lawn space, a focal garden with a water feature, an outdoor kitchen, and a 30-foot diameter gazebo. Additional trees were planted to provide shade; and a cedar privacy fence was installed to create privacy and a sense of enclosure, essential to a true garden. This site became an oasis within the surrounding urban fabric.

The custom patio, with paver slabs installed in a random pattern with contrasting dark border, is installed in a shady corner near the building.

The outdoor kitchen is fully equipped with a gas range, prep sink, trash receptacles, and a natural granite slab counter top.

The privacy fencing adds a necessary sense of enclosure and screens out the adjacent parking lots.
